Are there any apps or technological advances that Florida drivers can use to protect themselves from receiving a ticket?
Answer: Well you always have radar, but the problem with radar detectors is they’ll sell you a bill of goods to say, “Well, it can detect both radar and laser.” The problem with lasers—it’s a very, very, very thin beam. I’ve been trained in laser gun, I went through the same classes that the troopers did with regard to laser guns, I own a laser gun. So I’m very familiar, and I’ve tested them out. To rely on a radar detector to think that you’re never going to get a ticket is a huge mistake. Not only that, it makes some of the troopers upset when they pull you over and they see a radar detector, they think you’re trying to evade them, if you will. So, you obviously have CB radios, I talked about that earlier—they’re still being used by not only truckers, but by people. They talk to each other. But I think, just to keep yourself in check, if you will, there’s nothing better right now than the Waze app. I mean, if you’re going to be driving on the roadways in the state of Florida or really anywhere, I mean, it’s as real time as they come. The only issue that you have to be worried about is data usage, so it could cost you if you don’t have a big data plan. You’ve just got to keep that in the back of your mind. There’s no better app or device I’m aware of other than Waze right now.
