What are the penalties for domestic violence in Florida?
Answer: Domestic violence doesn’t really have specific penalties outside of the classes that are required to be imposed. Most of it will be the same as battery; it will carry a mandatory 12 months of probation for a domestic battery and six months for a domestic assault. However, it will be the classes that are required that will dictate the domestic violence part of it. So there are actual specific classes, such as the Certified Batterers Intervention Program, that would be required on any kind of domestic violence battery case. And those can range anywhere between 16 and 26 weeks.
