What should every defendant know about prosecutors in Florida?
Answer: It’s important to realize that yes, they are the State Attorney’s Office and they want, for the most part, they want justice, too. Most of the prosecutors are not out to get people; they have a job to do just like we do. So it’s important to know that, for the most part, they are fair and they will listen to what we have to say. And that’s why having a good rapport with prosecutors, having a good relationship with them, it’s helpful for everyone: it’s helpful for the prosecutor, it’s helpful for the defendant, it’s helpful for the judge. They have a job to do, but being able to communicate with them effectively is beneficial for all parties involved.
