Answer: The only time you would actually have to go to court is if the ticket was a mandatory ticket. Mandatory tickets would be something like a speed ticket that’s 30 over the posted speed limit, a speeding ticket that’s 50 over the posted speed limit, or an accident case that involves serious injury or a fatality, or an uncovered load. Those are all mandatory court appearances, which the Florida legislature has deemed requires your appearance in the county in which you received the violation. The good thing is in these types of cases is that you can hire an attorney to appear for you, because under the traffic court rules, the attorney can appear on behalf of the client so that you wouldn’t have to travel back to whatever jurisdiction it was that you received a ticket that required the mandatory court appearance.
